Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Visitor Policy

Updated July 10, 2020

The Masonic Homes of California cares deeply about our residents, staff, clients and members.  With growing news of the virus’s spread across California and the world, we wanted to give you an update on our steps to keep our residents and staff healthy and safe.

We have established a Clinical Task Force that has been monitoring the Coronavirus situation on a daily basis and preparing for potential impact on any of our communities. This task force has been following the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the California Department of Public Health, as well as local county authorities to establish temporary policies to protect our residents.   These policies and procedures for residents and staff are designed to prevent the virus from infection on our campuses, from hand-washing and dining room procedures, to travel and sick policies, to working with vendors to ensure that we have adequate supplies to continue our high level of quality of care and services.

Visitors and Guests in Covina and Union City

Due to our higher risk populations, and to comply with state, federal, and local guidelines, we have instituted temporary visitation policies during this outbreak.  Please note that these may change at any time.

Supervised visits have resumed in an altered fashion in our assisted living and independent living environments based on guidance from the state of California.  We are continuing to coordinate with Los Angeles and Alameda counties, the Department of Social Services, and recommendations from the CDC and California Department of Public Health.

Please check back for updates, and read the current visitation policies and procedures here:

Masonic Center for Youth and Families

The Masonic Center for Youth and Families has rescheduled all in-person sessions for online or phone sessions for two weeks, and will monitor the situation as it evolves. We will be monitoring the local Department of Public Health procedures and will follow suit with their recommendations.

Individual Preventive Steps

Please help to control the spread of the virus with these preventative steps.  The CDC reports that the spread of COVID-19 appears to occur mainly by person-to-person transmission.  The California Department of Public Health advises the following steps to prevent the spread of all respiratory viruses:

  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your elbow.
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home if you become sick with respiratory symptoms like fever and cough.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily.

It is of the utmost importance to us that our communities stay healthy and safe.   Please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns.
