Daily COVID-19 Update for October 9, 2020

The Masonic Homes of California and Acacia Creek Retirement Community care deeply about all residents, staff, and their families.  To keep you informed about the status of COVID-19 on our campuses, we are providing this daily update on the status of any testing for our residents and staff members.  These numbers reflect data as of 10am on the reporting day.  We will update these figures by noon each day. Please check back for the latest information.

Please note that starting on June 9, 2020, all staff members, vendors spending significant time on our campuses, and residents in our Lorber skilled nursing facility in Union City are being tested for COVID-19.  On August 10, all Acacia Creek staff and residents will begin being tested as well.  Some residents and staff have been tested more than once.

Update for October 9, 2020

A case COVID-19 has been confirmed in a staff member at our Union City campus, the first positive test in Union City since July.  The staff member is quarantined at home.  All staff and residents who may have been exposed will go through two rounds of testing, which have already started.  At this time, we don’t believe our Lorber skilled nursing or memory care environments have been exposed.

With this positive result, we must temporarily adjust day to day activities and operating procedures in Union City until we are cleared by Alameda County Public Health officials.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Postponing all visitations
  • Limiting residents to their rooms and apartments, including dining
  • Temporarily closing services, such as the Beauty Shop and pedicures
  • Postponing socially distanced gatherings including group activities, outdoor activities and projects
  • Some staff may be wearing more PPE than normal

Residents and staff who could have been exposed must be tested negative twice before we can resume these activities again.  We hope this will be swift.

This is the first positive test on our Union City campus since July.  Since the pandemic began, over 3150 tests have been done on this campus alone.  This test marks only the 6th positive case, and all of those who tested positive have recovered and are doing well.  We continue to have had no residents test positive for COVID-19.
