On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, the Masonic Homes recognized the beginning of construction for a new skilled nursing, long-term care, and memory care center in Covina.
This is the first in a number of planned campus improvements that we hope will be made possible with support from brothers statewide. One of the primary goals of our “Let’s Write the Future” campaign, is to build memory care and advanced care facilities for our most vulnerable brethren and their spouses and widows.
Currently, when Covina residents need skilled nursing or memory care, they must move off campus to a contracted provider, or relocate to Union City. When this happens, spouses can be forced to live in separate communities to receive the care they each need. This new center, and others planned through the campaign, will allow vulnerable Masonic family members to remain in Southern California, in the same community as their spouses and Masonic family.
Make a difference for elderly brethren, spouses, and widows:
During the special groundbreaking ceremony at Covina, Gary Charland, president and CEO of the Masonic Homes of California, welcomed guests from throughout Southern California. The ceremony included remarks by Grand Master Bruce Galloway; Past Grand Master John Lowe, president of the Masonic Homes of California Board of Trustees; and Assistant Grand Lecturer Elvan Moen of Division II. Grand Chaplain Jeffrey Schimsky offered an invocation and benediction.
Many members of the California Masonic Foundation Board of Trustees and “Let’s Write the Future” campaign committee were also present.
“This new center will allow us to provide our brothers in Southern California with the same levels of care that brothers in the north can access today,” says Douglas Ismail, president of the California Masonic Foundation. “It is the first of many steps we hope to take statewide over the next several years. Advancements on this campus and in Union City will allow us to fulfill our obligation to vulnerable brothers and widows in their hour of greatest need.”
